    *actual words to song

In the name of fun I have taken the liberty to apply a few of the lyrics to our RV culture.

You work and work for years and years, you’re always on the go
You never take a minute off, too busy makin’ dough
Someday, you say, you’ll go full-time (*have your fun) when you’re a millionaire
Imagine all the fun you’ll have in your old rockin’ chair

Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think!
Enjoy yourself. While you’re still in the pink!
The years go by, As quickly as a wink.
Enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.

You’re gonna take that RV (*ocean) trip, no matter, come what may
You’ve got your reservations made, but you just can’t get away
Next year, for sure, you’ll go full-time (*see the world), you’ll really get around
But how far can you travel when you’re six-feet under ground?

Your heart of hearts, your dream of dreams, your ravishing brunet
She’s left you and she’s now become somebody else’s pet.
Lay down that gun don’t try my friend to reach the great beyond
You’ll have more fun by camping with (*reaching for) a redhead or a blond.

Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think!
Enjoy yourself. While you’re still in the pink!
The years go by, As quickly as a wink.
Enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.

You never go to campgrounds (*nightclubs) and you just don’t care to hike (*dance).
You don’t have time for silly things like campfires (*moonlight) and a bike (*romance).
You only think of dollar bills tied neatly in a stack
But when you kiss a dollar bill it doesn’t kiss you back.

Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think!
Enjoy yourself. While you’re still in the pink!
The years go by, As quickly as a wink.
Enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.

E.H. Morris & Co./Magidson Music Co. Inc. (ASCAP) Herb Magidson born, 7 January 1906, Braddock, Pennsylvania, USA, died, 5 January 1986, Beverly Hills, California, USA. A leading composer and lyricist in the ’30s and ’40s, particularly remembered for The Continental, which he wrote the lyric to Con Conrad’s tune for the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers picture The Gay Divorcée. It became the first winner of the Best Song Academy Award in 1934. 1950 “Enjoy Yourself. It’s Later Than You Think”
MOMENTS TO REMEMBER for JUNE 19 – Billed as “The Sweetest Music This Side Of Heaven,” the band of GUY LOMBARDO (Jun 19, 1902–Nov 5, 1977) enjoyed an amazing five decades of national prominence while maintaining a consistent musical style and confounding the many critics who joked about its “corny” sound and quavery saxes.  The Ontario-born Lombardo first rose to fame in 1927 on the strength of his popular early Columbia discs and through the years became one of the most successful recording artists of the 20th century, along the way establishing himself as “Mister New Year’s Eve” through his annual December 31st broadcasts.  One of the first hit songs of the brand new 1950s decade was the Lombardo favorite “Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think).”  https://www.youtube.com/user/MusicProf78

A complementary note from Sandy and JW:

I found this web site this morning by mistake…. What a WONDERFUL FIND! After going through it I just wanted to say thank-you for making my DAY! I have sent it to several other people already and plan on sending it to lots of others! This is a great website! Sandy

JW Thank you for posting the sound clip of “enjoy yourself”.  We were at a gathering and someone told the story of encountering a woman in her 80s on an row boat in a pond in Vermont rowing along loudly singing a song with the refrain “enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think.” We thought it was a great sentiment, and were glad to have been able to find it on the internet and surprised to see it was a song that was a hit before we were all born.

It usually starts with tent camping! Some of the best memories will be about how we started our RV life. Enjoy every problem and discomfort, it will make you tough.
