2002 Accessible Southwind w/ Less Than 10,000 Miles on New Engine
$49,000
We listed our wheelchair accessible Class A Southwind for sale last year shortly after our son passed away. We had many inquiries about it as the ad stayed active on this site and was in the process of being taken down. With heavy hearts, we expressed to each of you that we were not emotionally ready to sell at that time. We are now emotionally able to sell our awesome wheelchair accessible Class A motorhome so someone can make many happy memories traveling in this beautiful RV. We have owned this RV for 23 years. Call Jeff 903.477.6547 with any questions. All reasonable offers will be considered.
Engine/Mechanical/Operational Upgrades:
In 2014, Workhorse 8.1L Vortec V8 – removed & rebuilt. Also replaced serpentine belt, water pump, fan clutch, radiator & hoses, spark plugs & wires, fuel injectors, all engine sensors, motor mounts, oil pump, engine gaskets and refurbished intake manifold. Around 10,000 miles since the rebuild. Ready to go wherever you want to go.
In 2021, Banks cold air intake & Banks headers added to true dual exhaust system, new fuel pump & fuel lines/connectors & fuel hoses, updated EVAP canister, Bilstein shocks, Sumo Springs, and Safe Drive.
In 2024, new steer and drive tires (all 6), and all mechanical parts of the Atwood water heater replaced.
New Onan 5500 generator installed about 8 years ago. Maintained per Onan requirements.
Front house A/C replaced in 2025. Back A/C still runs great!
Exterior Upgrades: New body paint in 2015 along with bin handles & mirrors, new headlights & fog lights, LED clearance lights/license plate light, and all windows tinted & resealed using 3M rubber gaskets. Removed rear step ladder for cleaner “Prevost” bus end cap look. Front windshield replaced in 2026 after rock chip.
Wheelchair Accessibility & Other Interior Upgrades:
In 2014, factory new DOT approved commercial-grade Braun Century 2 Wheelchair Lift installed along with an accessible manually-operated door. New door framework is aluminum tubing and welded into the existing frame. Modified cabinets above lift for additional headroom during entry/exit.
Replaced sofa with medical bed located directly behind driver’s seat with big viewing window.
Replaced carpet with Pergo flooring in the front portion of motorhome for ease in maneuvering wheelchair.
Installed Q’Straint Aluminum Safety Anchorage L-Tracks for fixed 4-point wheelchair tie down between cab area seats. Also replaced TV and shortened TV cabinet for clear viewing through front windshield from wheelchair.
All new LED bulbs throughout coach. Replaced hanging light fixtures above medical bed and dining table with low profile light fixtures.
Removed glass shower enclosure for easy access to shower.
In 2024, installed new black residential refrigerator.
Special Notes:
We transferred our son by hand from wheelchair to shower chair/toilet or we took care of personal needs at bedside, so we did not need to modify restroom area other than removing glass shower enclosure and replacing with shower curtain. Currently shower pan lip is about 4″ with a 24″ restroom door.
When the living area slide is in, the driver area is not accessible via a wheelchair. It could be modified with a transfer chair and hand controls, but that was not needed in our situation.
The lift door is manually operated, but it can be upgraded to remote control operation. We did not need this modification as our son did not travel alone.
The chassis front dash A/C does not get cold. We ran the generator full time with the house A/C units unless plugged into shore power because of the extensive power needs of our son’s wheelchair and ventilator, so this was not a problem for us.
The living room slide at times is slow to retract. We simply raised the driver’s side levelers. Probably a simple adjustment, but we have not investigated further as it has consistently worked in and out.
We sell our fully upgraded 2002 Fleetwood Southwind wheelchair accessible RV with confidence, but with no guarantees, written or implied.

-Boo Boo on the driver’s side rear wheel well. Doesn’t affect the slide out, just cosmetic.
-No awning – previous owners lost in a wind storm we never installed a new one.
-It’s not new, it has been on many fun adventures so it’s not pristine.
Note
The wheelchair lift was taken out but everything was documented so we can re-install if we were to sell it. My family didn’t need that feature so we removed it to make room for the tv. We can re-install it prior to sale if needed. Otherwise it will be included with the sale.
Same for the washer/dryer combo, it was removed to provide us with some more storage room. We currently use that space for our tv tables and garbage can. Everything was done so it could easily be reversed. We can re-install it prior to sale if needed. Otherwise it will be included with the sale.
About the RV
It’s been a great addition to our family, we have had some amazing trips. Some highlight trips were from Joseph, OR down to Phoenix, AZ and back home the long way. And out to Craters of the Moon, ID too. It drives great, surprisingly powerful for its size and being a gaser. It’s very comfortable.
I installed the extra bed above where the driver and passenger seats are. Our family is a family of 8, half of them teens and it was a necessity. Its pretty easy to put down if you have two people.
We are selling our RV due to other financial burdens, our kids are very sad and it will be sorely missed.
